Shifting The Holiday Weight & What I Ate

First off I want to start by saying I’m not an expert and don’t pretend to be, I’m sharing my experience and what has worked for me.

So I went to Majorca in May, it was an all inclusive holiday. Everyone puts on holiday weight and I certainly wasn’t restricting my diet whilst away, after all it was a holiday and I wanted to enjoy myself – and I did. I did try to make healthy choices throughout my time away but as the week went on I was sneaking in a dessert and extra snacks that I wouldn’t normally have. By the second week of my holiday I was severely bloated to the point I looked about 6 months pregnant and I felt awful, I was in so much discomfort and I hated how I looked in my clothes, I couldn’t wait to return home to start working out again and eat some healthy food.

This is what my tummy looked like the day after I returned home, this is hard for me to post as I’m not comfortable showing off my body on the internet but I wanted to be real.

I made a plan to¬†return to¬†working out 3 – 4 times a week, the workouts I chose were Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, Kettlebells and Kayla Itsines. I also cut out all junk food and chocolate, my body responds really well to reduced sugar intake. I’m not going to lie it has been really hard and I’ve had numerous “days off” consuming cheesecake, takeaways and wine but I’ve always worked out regularly and been good during the week. The bloat went down within a week and I was starting to feel slightly less puffy and heavy but it did take about 4 weeks to get back to my pre holiday body.

July

My tummy isn’t completely flat and never will be, I’ve had two c sections so have the mum pouch. I started eating 3 healthy meals a day and one snack, I upped my water intake and started to feel healthy again. This was a typical day of eating for me…

Breakfast – Special K

Lunch – Turkey Burger, Houmous & Rice Cakes

Snack – Granny Smith Apple & Peanut Butter

Dinner – Chicken Kebabs, Rice, Roasted New Potatoes & Cottage Cheese

I find eating things like this and not having any naughty treats in the house really helps me stay on track, but around a week before time of the month I stuff my face something silly for some reason and then I’m not hungry again. I do find that I am an emotional eater, if I have had wine I almost certainly have a hangover the next day even if I have one or two glasses I cannot escape feeling rotten the next day so I crave carbs, sugar and fatty stodge. We all have to let off steam sometimes and live our lives, I’ve come to the realisation that it is all about balance and I really enjoy eating food and having a nice glass of wine so why would I cut it out? I work out to feel good, it really brightens my mood and is kind of therapeutic, it makes me happy and I love nothing more than working out first thing in the morning to set me up for the day.

  1. I love this! I think you have such a realistic and refreshing attitude about being fit! I’ve been trying to get fitter myself. It’s a tough road! I found a gym that I actually really enjoy going to, but the food thing is rough for me! I like your attitude and I’ll have to try to take it on myself!
