I know everyone is moaning about the weather but seriously is it autumn in August? It doesn’t feel right donning my Chelsea boots, check shirt and jacket, I love this attire but not during summer. We had plans to visit Haldon Forest today and go to the Orange Elephant for ice creams and a stroll through the meadow but we had to abandon these grand plans due to the rain.
We opted to go to Sidmouth for some lunch, we went to the Anchor Inn which was cosy and welcoming the staff were excellent and so was the food. After lunch we popped into the sweet shop where the children were allowed to pick anything they wanted – decisions, decisions! We came away with popping candy, jelly babies and a massive candy dummy, safe to say this ended up matted in Amelie’s hair.
The children wanted to venture onto the pebbled beach to throw stones into the sea, it was raining and freezing by this point. Next on our list was a visit to The Donkey Sanctuary on our way home. I was so impressed with the revamp, they now have a huge café that overlooks the fields with a balcony that you could spend hours sat at day dreaming over a hot coffee and cake. We had a good look around and met the donkeys and we also walked around the maze, Amelie was the leader and directed us to the middle and even found the exit which was very impressive for a 5 year old.
We were soaked through and tired by the end so I ran a huge bubble bath for the kiddies, they had their dinner and a chill then went to bed and I’m now sat here under a blanket listening to the rain with Mr K and we are about to order a Chinese as a treat. He has been away working in Norway for the past couple of weeks so it is really nice to have him home as I’ve really missed him.
I can’t believe the children go back to school in 2 weeks, this “summer” has flown by.
