We had a slow paced morning on Saturday we decided to take the children for a wonder in the woods at Bystock Pools, Budleigh Salterton. I have heard so many local people talking about the pools but have never been myself. I thought they would be hard to locate but as it turns out they are right on the road side as you head towards the Reservoir. As a treat, on our way to Bystock Pools we stopped off at Moore’s Pasties for a couple of sausage rolls and scrumptious pasties – our favourite, they do the best in town!
When we arrived we were all bowled over by how stunning and peaceful it was. There were hardly any people around and all you could hear were the birds cheeping and the sound of the little waterfall under the bridge. There was a path for us to wonder along taking in all the wildlife and nature around us. We found a sweet little bridge that Mr K told the children a troll lived under, they thought that was great. Both Amelie and Charlie collected pine cones along the way and were intrigued as to what was around the corner.
We walked along the wooden bridge searching for dragon flies and saw some beautiful ones flying around – some were huge. We settled on a bench to tuck into our lunch, the children were chatting the whole time about what wildlife we could spot and whether there were any fish in the water. It is such a lovely place for a family walk and so untouched, I loved the quietness of the water it was relaxing in a way. We are planning to return again with a picnic as we want to go on a long walk and finish at Bystock Pools.
I cannot believe that this is on our doorstep – how lucky!
