Beauty & The Beast

As soon as I heard Beauty & The Beast was being made into a film I couldn’t wait to see it. The Disney animation for me was my favourite movie growing up, I remember my sister and me used to fight over who was Belle. The one who wasn’t Belle had to be one of the three blonde girls who adored Gaston, nine times out of ten I was Belle (being the big bossy sister after all, sorry sis!). I loved everything about the movie, the songs, the love story and of course the yellow dress.

Amelie has watched the Disney movie a lot and had a Belle dress when she turned 3, it was the red one that was all poufy. However over the years it slowly got smaller and very tatty, so it now resides in our loft as I can’t bear to throw it away – I’m sad like that. I had an idea that I thought would be a wonderful surprise for Amelie, she has been doing super well at school with her reading and writing and often I forget how young she is, I expect a lot of her when really I need to remember she is only 5. Anyway, I thought it would be nice if we bought her the new Belle dress from the film, surprise her with it and a trip to The Vue in Exeter to watch the film with mummy and daddy, we would leave Charlie with nanny and have some special time with Amelie.

So, I booked our tickets for Sunday at 5.15pm. I cannot tell you how excited I was to be going to watch the film, more excited than I should have been. We bought Amelie’s dress a couple of weeks before as I was worried her size would sell out, we told her it was for her friend Holly (hi Katy if you are reading this, sorry we used you and Holly as an excuse, ha ha!) and that Holly’s mummy had asked us to pick it up for her birthday as she couldn’t get to the shops. The dress has been hanging on our bedroom door for ages and yesterday Amelie finally got to wear it.

Nanny arrived to look after Charlie, I told Amelie it was time to get dressed to which she replied “in my pyjamas?” bless her. No I said, into this beautiful dress, she was totally confused and really shocked when I said the dress was hers. I put some princess plaits in her hair and we were off. We didn’t tell her we were going to the cinema we said we were going to the big Tesco to do a shop – how mean!

When we arrived at the cinema we collected our tickets, got some popcorn and other munchies. Everyone was staring and commenting on Amelie’s dress I’m sure she loved the attention. She was so excited and a bit in shock as she has never been to a big cinema before.

We took our seats and awaited the start of the film…

Oh my gosh the film was absolutely AMAZING!!!!! It was everything I expected it to be but so much more, I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it before so will just say this. It made me laugh lots, the Beast reminded me a bit of Hugh Grant’s character in Bridget Jones minus the swearing and smutty comments (it will make sense when you watch it), he was funny, charming and really won me over. I wasn’t sure what I would make of Emma Watson playing Belle but she was stunning and absolutely perfect for the role. I loved the songs and had a huge lump in my throat when the dance scene came on with the Beast in his blue suit and Belle in that gown, ahhhh I loved it!

The story was very true to the Disney movie which I was pleased about, there were some surprises thrown in there and at the end I just wanted to cry my eyes out but had a huge smile plastered on my face throughout the whole film, it took me right back to my childhood. It was truly magical and I would recommend taking any Disney fan to see it, it had Amelie gripped all the way through.

We can’t wait to see it again, even Mr K enjoyed it.
