Christmas Days Out In Devon & Somerset

Last year was all about our move to Somerset, it had over-taken everything. When we moved in September Christmas plans were the last thing on our mind, we were in a new area making our usual festivities unfamiliar. We had a wonderful time though getting settled into our new home and Christmas was still full of magic.

Fast forward 12 months, we are well established in our area and as luck would have it we have some lovely festive treats all booked in. I thought I would share a few of the days out/activities we have planned just in case any of them appeal to you – it isn’t too late to book things in.

You may remember a couple of years ago we did the Sail with Santa Cruise in Exmouth. It was absolutely amazing so we have booked again for this year. I was very tempted to go to Otter Nurseries but I think Sail with Santa is a far more magical experience and better value for money.

Both Amelie and Charlie had a great time hopping aboard the boat which docks at Exmouth Marina. You are taken on a cruise of the River Exe where there’s lots of fun happening on the boat – face paints, visiting Father Christmas, drinks, snacks and even a chance to steer the boat yourself. The trip is just as entertaining for parents and I had a great time. The scenery is fantastic, it really puts you in the mood to celebrate, we are going a few days before Christmas Day which will really lift our festive spirit.

Crealy is one of our favourite places to visit, the variety of rides, attractions and soft play adventures are endless – a really fun day out for all the family.

This year they are bringing you the BEST Crealy Christmas Spectacular to date and I cannot wait to visit with Amelie and Charlie. New for 2019 is Santa’s Magical Showtime where the big man himself takes to the stage, helped along by his most senior Elf – Jingles. There is so much to bring out your true Christmas spirit such as an all new glittering Ice Show – The Snow Globe – set in the brand new arena which is now a permanent fixture within Crealy.

Children will love stepping along the sparkling tree lined magical corridor to Santa’s Toy Factory where they are met by toy making elves who are eager to help the children pick out their very own free toy. Excitement levels will be through the roof during this jam packed festive family day out.

The Christmas Spectacular will run from 30th November – 24th December and tickets are now on sale. You really won’t want to miss out on this truly magical childhood experience.

Watching a show during the party season makes me feel all fuzzy inside, granted I’ve never been to a proper theatre before but just the feels I get from watching the children’s Nativity plays or assembly makes me so emotional and nostalgic.

Mr K and I have been invited to the Brewhouse Theatre in Taunton during December to watch The Railway Children and I couldn’t be more excited. A proper date night at the theatre just us parents, bliss! I have no doubt through the whole thing I will be saying “Oh the children would absolutely love this”, but I am secretly looking forward to some time on our own to really sit and enjoy the show. Plus there will be no getting up for snacks, drinks and the loo every 5 minutes.

I can’t wait to share our experience of the night, I just know I will come away feeling super festive.

There is nothing quite like a Christmas tree light switch on. The only light switch ons I’ve ever been to have consisted of a small tree in our old town with about 10 lights on – not very Christmassy!

However, this year we are taking the children to Taunton’s WinterFest held in the town centre. There promises to be lots of festive cheer (and prosecco!) fun fair rides, a giant snow globe, Santa’s Grotto, naughty Christmas elves, a large festive market, live performances, entertainers and the big Christmas lights switch on at 6.30pm. I can’t wait kick off our festivities on Sunday 24th November 2019.

As well as the above there are lots of other Christmassy dates in my diary, I love this time of year for getting together with friends, snuggly nights in watching our favourite movie and just the whole atmosphere – it is so magical!
