Top 5 Lockdown Beauty Favourites

If there is anything we need more at the moment, it is a good selection of beauty products to see us through lockdown.

We’ve been stripped of our luscious thick lash extensions, our manicured nails are bare, broken and weak and don’t even get me started on how the hair is looking – actually mine is okay as I had it highlighted the day the salons were closing, however, it could do with a trim. But at the same time I’m relishing in the fact that I can repair and replenish any damage I may have caused by having these treatments.

Here are my top 5 beauty products that I have been loving for the past couple of months.

I take a variety of vitamins to support my health. Being coeliac and having an under active thyroid can be quite draining on my body. I have to be extremely careful with any new supplement I take, making sure I check what is in the product – no gluten or lactose.

Vitopia Beauty Peak Hair Support supplement has been my go-to food supplement. Beauty Peak Hair Support is an amazing combination of vitamins and minerals containing Fish Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, Biotin, Zinc, Selenium, Amino Acids and Grape Extract to name but a few. The capsules are free from gluten, preservatives, artificial colours and lactose. They are not tested on animals and are suitable for vegetarians. All of these wonderful ingredients contribute to the maintenance of healthy luscious hair.

I have been taking 2 capsules (as directed) each day with my lunch, not on an empty stomach. I can honestly say I have noticed such a difference in my skin as well as my hair. Not putting heat on my hair obviously helps matters but nourishing from the inside has been the biggest benefit not just to my hair but also my overall health.

I think it is so important to be looking after yourself from the inside out, especially during this really stressful time. Beauty Peak Hair Supplement also offers Vitamins A, D, C, B6 and B12 all of which are vital for good health. In the box is 60 capsules – a 30 day supply, the capsules are of a good size and are easy to swallow. I will certainly be continuing my course as I think long term use will be extremely beneficial.

With no salon open and hair dulling what is a girl to do to brighten her highlights? Well, I have found the BEST purple shampoo. It is even better than the expensive ones I have recently tried. John Frieda Violet Crush for Blondes, intensive purple shampoo really knocks out those very stubborn yellow, brassy tones. I have noticed such a difference to the colour and brightness of my hair after using this shampoo, it looks like I have visited the salon for a top up of bleach and is excellent value for money. I bought mine from Superdrug but it is also available in Boots.

I was treated to a lovely gel manicure for my birthday in January. I’m a fuss-pot when it comes to nail varnish, I love getting a fresh set of claws but as soon as I see any regrowth or a chip I pick all the polish off – very naughty!

I was good this time though and soaked my polish off but I am sure it was industrial strength gel polish as it took half my nail with it. I made it my mission to repair and restore my nails to what they were before. I picked up Sally Hansen Advanced Hard as Nails polish to try, normally my go-to would be OPI Nail Envy but I couldn’t be bothered to wait for delivery. I’ve used it every day for the last 3 months and my nails are finally back to good health, they are no longer paper thin, weak, pealing or constantly breaking. I used the polish along with a cuticle oil and I am so pleased with the results.

Having damaged nails was horrible, I had to keep them really short as they were so thin. I didn’t paint them as the nail polish would come off within hours. Having nice nails has always been important to me and I cannot wait to paint them with lots of lovely Spring colours.

Now, this is a little sore subject for me. I’ve been having eyelash extensions for a long time, they frame my face, make me feel good and are an essential part of my make up routine. I love not having to wear mascara, I’m nearly ready for the day as soon as I wake up as I have my eyebrows microbladed too. It all sounds very vain but it is what makes me happy.

With lockdown in place I’m unable to have my lashes done. When I take my lashes off I look like a little mole, it is horrible. They are short, stubby and really dry, it takes a good couple of weeks to notice any sort of progress. The top products I’ve used over the years are Baby Oil, Vaseline and Castor Oil. I literally slather it onto my lashes before bed each night and wash it off in the morning, although by the time morning arrives the product has all sunk in any way.

If you are looking for a budget friendly way to repair lashes then I would certainly recommend Castor Oil as mine are back to normal now after 4 weeks. I know there are lots of really expensive products out there that will probably work quicker but why spend loads of money when you can get the same results in a little more time?

I have spoken about using fake tans lots of time before, they are part of my beauty regime and I will use them until I am an old lady.

I do find I need to switch up my fake tan depending on the time of year as they are either too dark or not dark enough. I have recently changed from my usual tan to this Garnier Summer Body gradual moisturising lotion. It is fantastic and really enhances my natural tan that I have acquired from the glorious weather we’ve been having.

It smells really nice, absorbs well and gives a lovely sun-kissed colour.

I hope you enjoyed reading about the above products, I love finding new beauty items to try out and anything that makes me feel a little perkier I’ll try.
