Valentine’s Day – love it or hate it, it is everywhere! From soppy cards to huge teddy bears, there are gifts of all sorts. Personally, we as a couple don’t go overboard with big gift gestures anymore (since having children) and we certainly do not go out for a meal on Valentine’s night. We prefer gifts that we will use, enjoy and that are a little personal to us.
Our plans this year will include a coffee date whilst the littles are at school, a fancy pants M&S dinner cooked by myself, bottle of plonk and some of the gifts that I want to share with you below.
I do like to involve the children on Valentine’s Day as I think it is nice to show your love for them as much as to your other half. I plan on making heart shaped pancakes for their breakfast on heart paper plates, giving them each a few chocolates after school and a little card.
Right, on with this year’s Valentine’s Day gift guide.
Heart Pyjamas – Matalan
This gift is hands down my favourite of all, possibly because I love to be cosy and am a bit obsessed with pyjamas. Why not treat the lovely lady in your house to a relaxing bubble bath, candles and a set of absolutely gorgeous pyjamas from Matalan.
I’ve been testing these out and can honestly say they are so comfy, soft and well fitted. I was a little concerned with the sizing as I’m quite petite but these fit so so well, I particularly like the cuffed bottoms. The colour is super vibrant and how cute are the little hearts – perfect for Valentine’s Day and any other day for that matter.
The night shirt is also just as snuggly, this would be perfect for the Spring/Summer transition as it is light and airy and not stuffy. Matalan have quite the collection of PJs they wash really well and keep their shape, these are so affordable and I think would make a smashing gift. Not just for Valentine’s Day, I would have loved something like this for when I was a new mum – perfect to pack in the hospital bag.
The Man Box – Ross & Ross
Something for the fella in your life – The Man Box. How brilliant is this box of foodie goodies from Ross & Ross.
Here you have a selection of the best British snacks and beer – the perfect combo. Although this gift is called the Man Box I think it would be a fab present for anyone as it includes lots of delicious foods that can be enjoyed whilst watching a movie, having a pamper night, snacking through a games night or just for that little bit of indulgence for yourself. Whatever the occasion this is a really great idea for that food loving person, it would be fab for a Father’s Day pressie as well.
So what do you get in the box? It comes securely packaged with a little tag on and inside you are met with a lucky dip of yummy treats.
A bottle of Premium Cotswold Lager
British Charcuterie Original Salami
A bag of Mr Trotter’s Great British Crackling
Smoked Apple Chutney
I can guarantee the whole family will be tucking into this box (we will leave the Beer for Daddy though!!).
Botonique Botanical Drinks for Wine Lovers
We know Valentine’s Day usually involves some sort of fizz but if you aren’t a big drinker or just fancy something a little unique this year why not give the amazing Botonique non alcoholic alternative a try. Botonique is made right here in the UK, there are no added sugars, artificial sweeteners (a big thumbs up from me) flavours or preservatives. It is a great healthy alternative to your standard wine as it only has 14 calories per 100ml – yes!!
There are two to choose from. The first is a stunning Botonique Blush, bursting with strawberry, rose and bramble flavours it screams Spring/Summer time to me. The taste is extremely refreshing and not sickly, served over ice in a flute topped with a strawberry you have the perfect accompaniment to your Valentine’s meal for two.
I am really trying to limit my alcohol consumption this year (not that it is excessive) and to be more mindful on how it makes me feel. I have a healthy lifestyle anyway so adding Botonique Botanical Drinks to the mix is a game changer. You still feel like you are having a treat but without the banging head in the morning. Plus it contains so many vitamins, minerals and amino acids, and provides lots of health benefits.
The other bottle on offer is the Original Crisp Dry Wine, this is a fantastic combination of my favourite flavours – prosecco and white wine. I love the flavours that come to light once sipped, from citrus, basil, ginseng, it even has milk thistle seed within it. This would be an ideal addition to the table at any meal. I can just imagine sitting in the sunshine with the BBQ on, lots of friends around the table enjoying an ice cold glass of this scrumptious drink.
