Mummy Life

Summer Reading List

When I was younger I used to read books all the time. I would go up to my bedroom (which I shared with my sister) lay on bed and escape to a world of imagination. I would read anything from pony stories to “horror” who remembers Goosebumps books? I was obsessed with these books and would get so excited to finish a book and move onto another.

Even when I didn’t have children I found time to read, I love getting stuck into a good book, you can totally escape real life and imagine what the characters look like and how they would react to situations. Now, I’m gonna say it from the beginning I’m not really into educational, big worded books any more I love a good mystery/crime/chick lit/raunchy story/autobiography. I used to read a lot of Jackie Collins and Martina Cole books when I lived at home but I think that was my mum’s influence as she is an avid reader.

My ideal evening would be:- get the children in bed, make a cup of hot milk and hop into bed to read a few chapters. However, being a busy mum to 2 children and life taking over, there’s no chance of that happening. The biggest time constraint at the moment is bloody Love Island, I can’t miss an episode – ahhh! But, when that is all over and life resumes to “normal” and we move, I am definitely planning to buy a cute little wooden grey crate to house all of the books I want to read and put it next to my bed.

There’s a huge list of books I want to read over the next few months, and I have a little day dream of it being Autumn me lighting candles and snuggling up on the sofa in a chunky knit with a cuppa getting suck into a good book. This day dream is never going to be my reality but you get the gist. Anyway, I digress, I thought I would share just a few of the books I am planning on reading over the summer. If you have any suggestions please do let me know as I’m always on the hunt for a good story.

I Stop Somewhere – T.E Carter

I cannot wait to read this book it is at the top of my list. It is gritty and gripping (from what I have read) which is right up my street. I’m not going to give away too much but this book is about a girl called Ellie who has been assaulted.

Happy Mum Happy Baby, My Adventures in Motherhood – Giovanna Fletcher

I’m so so late to the party with this book but I’ve wanted to read it for ages. A completely different book to the above but one that has been on my list for a while.

Erica Oliphant Is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman

I’ve heard so many mixed reviews about this book but I want to find out for myself as the majority of the reviews have been great.

Why Mummy Drinks – Gill Sims

I would like to know why mummy drinks too, ha ha! I’m looking forward to reading something light-hearted and real.

Blood Sisters – Julie Shaw

This book is one my mum gave me, she said it was a good read. I do love my mum she’s really cute in that she will go into a proper book shop hunting for the crime novels. She gets lost in a world of grit and drama and tells the most wonderful stories.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F – Mark Manson

I need this book in my life, nothing more to say on this matter.

If I ever do get around to reading all of the above I might do a review of what I thought. I’m so used to being bogged down with parenting books as I have no idea how to raise my children (jokes) they go through so many “phases” within the first 5 years of life I can’t keep up.
