Nextbase 212 Lite Dash Cam – Our Experience

When I think of Dash Cams I imagine a high speed police chase recording all the drama. My life isn’t as exciting as the things you see on television though but I really liked the idea of using a Dash Cam for our everyday journeys and travelling.

We were very kindly contacted by the Nextbase Team and sent the brilliant NEXTBASE 212 Lite DASH CAM to try out. This nifty little camera is full HD providing extremely high quality footage, I couldn’t wait for it to arrive.

All of the Nextbase Dash Cams are in a very affordable range, starting at just £49.99. The 212 Lite Dash Cam has a 2.7″ LCD colour screen, has a magnetic click & go system for simple assembly and instant connection. It provides a 140 degree wide angle view and comes with all the cables required for use.

Our Thoughts

I’m not very technical or gadgety (if that’s even a word) so I when the Nextbase 212 Lite Dash Cam arrived Mr K was very excited. I was really surprised at how light the camera was, I’m not sure what I was expecting but I did think it would be a bit of a brick and chunky. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find a compact, modern dash cam that was ready to assemble. This is the slimmest dash cam on the market and ideal for families and young drivers.

Within the box came a powered mount, you simply stick it to the windscreen (inside the car) and click the camera into place. Of course you had to plug the cable into the car power socket and adjust the camera to suit your view. It was so easy and fuss free, within less than 5 minutes we were ready to start using it.

Once you turned the camera on you were ready to go as it starts automatically recording. There is a photo mode on the camera that provides a still image option if needed and another handy feature is the loop recording to ensure it still records even when the SD card is full. There are so many fantastic key features to this dash cam it is super easy to install and very user friendly.

The view of the road is crystal clear, the images are very detailed. Amelie and Charlie loved watching our journey through the dash cam and I found it a comfort knowing if anything did happen, all footage was recorded. Also there is an audio off button within the menu so it won’t record your conversations. We did turn this option off as all we say when we are in the car is “Can you keep the noise down, I’m trying to concentrate” to the children – they are sooooo loud sometimes.

Retrieving the footage is quick, there is even an app for it (check out the Nextbase website). The kit comes with a USB cable to fit into your laptop or computer, you can also take the SD card out and pop that into a device.

Overall, I think this dash cam is a brilliant piece of equipment, I like the simplicity and the high quality. If you are looking for a dash cam but don’t want to break the bank, I would suggest taking a look at the Nextbase range as there is something to suit every budget and specification.
