My style and fashion has changed dramatically over the last 6 years, well, since becoming a parent really. I’ve never been a throw on a pair of joggers and a top kind of gal, I like to get up put my face on, do my hair and pick out a nice (comfortable) outfit. I’ve always been into fashion and enjoy pinning outfit ideas as well as scrolling Instagram for inspiration.
If I’m being honest I do find dressing for the summer months quite a challenge, I want a pretty outfit without falling into the too frumpy or mumsy trap. I wouldn’t ever wear short shorts with my bum cheeks hanging out or a skirt that I couldn’t chase the children around in. I like classic but fun trends that will see me through all seasons, a bit of an investment really. Don’t get me wrong I’m quite happy to wear my “mum uniform” during the week whilst on the school run, this will mainly consist of a Breton top of some sort, my favourite Molly Jeans from River Island, flip flops and a bag.
As the weather has been so amazing I have been forced to step out of my comfort zone and update my summer wardrobe as milling about in jeans and a t-shirt has not been possible with it being scorchio.
Here are my favourite outfits that I have been loving this summer, all very kindly sent to me by River Island (thank you!!).
Red Floral Twist Front Skater Dress £32
This stunning deep red dress is the perfect outfit to throw on if you are out and about with the children. The fit is extremely flattering and I just love the back of the dress with a deep V it gives that something extra. The material is really soft and durable, I got sun cream and ice cream on this dress and it wiped straight off. You could really dress this outfit up with a pair of tan wedges or a heel it would be lovely to wear to a bbq or summer party.
Wedding season is well and truly upon us. I do find picking an outfit for a wedding tricky – do I wear my safe black dress, can I still race about with the kiddies in a shorter style??? I tend to opt for the safe boring option but I think a wedding is the perfect opportunity to really dress up and feel pretty.
I think I have found the perfect dress for a wedding or any special occasion. It is not something I would have usually gravitated towards but this beautiful pink floral dress is just everything. It is girly, lightweight (great for a hot sunny day), flattering and fun. I love the detail of the wrap front it is higher at the front but a lovely length to still be classy. The tie at the side of this dress gives an added touch to the look. I am going to a wedding in a couple of weeks and will be styling this dress with a pair of nude heels and a clutch bag.
Black Floral Twist Front Skater Dress £32
This floral skater dress is going to be my next date night outfit. I did wear it the other day when we all went for a walk around Topsham, we stopped off for a glass of red wine and enjoyed the balmy summer evening. This is another versatile dress that is great for feeling a little bit more dressed up but also still comfortable. You could wear this to a wedding and I think this is going to be my back up dress as I love this outfit with nude heels and a clutch.
It is a dress that will take you through to Autumn/Winter teamed with tights, boots and a chunky cardigan. I really like the fit of the skater dresses from River Island they hug you in the right places and are a good length.
Handbags are one of my biggest loves in life (apart from my children/family). You can’t get a new dress without buying a new bag and when this gorgeous slouch bag arrived, Amelie was all over it – she takes after her mama. I love this bag so much, the mixed texture material gives it an edge. It is the perfect bag for taking on days out with the children, it is like a Mary Poppins bag and houses all kinds of goodies. I like that it has a shoulder strap for ease but also comes with a detachable cross body strap which is useful if you need to have your hands free. The gold hardware works well with the black and it comes with a cute detachable knitted pom pom.
This bag goes with everything and is extremely well made, I can’t wait to use it during the Autumn teamed with a cosy jumper, jeans and Chelsea boots.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, I do get a lot of compliments and good feedback when I publish a fashion post which makes me so happy as I love putting these kinds of things together. River Island have some amazing dresses and bags in store and online at the moment, they have summer sorted.
