I realise it is only September but I love Halloween, even more so now I have children. However I’m always stuck for ideas on places to visit and activities to do with the children. My ideal Halloween would be picking our own pumpkins at a cute farm, apple bobbing, decorating the whole house inside and out and going crazy with Halloween treats – I really wished I lived in America as they go bananas over Halloween!
I’m going to try and cram in as many festive activities as possible this year and I have complied a small list of spooky attractions to visit during October in Devon.
Visit the spooktactular World of Country Life this half term, there is so much to look forward to including pumpkin carving, arts and crafts, a treasure trail and even a family Halloween show (on 27th, 28th & 29th) featuring Angus & The Witch!
Visit Pennywell Farm from 10.00am until 5.00pm for treats galore with the adorable miniture piglets, there are farm rides, activity shows and displays throughout the day.
Promising to be the best ever Halloween experience, Crealy have some fantastic activities for all the family this October. There’s Creaky Hotel, Trolls Treehouse in the Wilderness – if you are feeling brave – free pumpkins to carve at the annual pumpkin carving competition live on stage, a spooky game of Trick or Treat and an exciting Jolly-ween Singing Pumpkin Show, as well as special appearances from non other than Scooby-Doo on 24th and 28th October.
Bicton Park Botanical Gardens, East Budleigh – 23rd to 29th October
I love the sound of Halloween at Bicton, this year they have a Halloween train ride on 26th October departing at 6.30pm (tickets are £12.95pp) where you will end the night with scrumptious hot chocolate and scary muffins! During the day there will be colouring competitions with a chance to win family memberships and other fantastic prizes and there’s also the Witches Grotto, why not join in the fun and dress up in your favourite Halloween costume.
I can honestly say from experience – we have visited twice during Halloween Half Term – that it is the most authentic atmosphere at Morwellham Quay. The surroundings make your experience so much more creepy. There is a scary mine train ride, witches coven, Halloween crafts, spooky stories and the best bit about it is the Trick or Treating at the end of the day, you get to visit all the cottages and shops knocking on the doors. They give the children sweets and it is all very Halloweeeny (if that’s a word?). We love it so much we are going back this year, if you have a Bicton Park card you get in free but there is a small extra charge to join in the activities.
Ocean are holding their very own kids Halloween parties for all the family to enjoy. Take your little witches and monsters for an evening of dancing, tearing around soft play, games, prizes, food and drinks. Tickets are on sale now, children £8.95 and adults go free!
Lifton Farm Shop, Lifton, Devon – 21st to 29th October
I have always wanted to visit a pumpkin patch where the children can run free and pick their own pumpkins. However, I’ve never found one in Devon…until now. Lifton Farm Shop is holding their very own Pumpkin Fest this Halloween and I’m so excited. There is so much to do, woodland trailer rides, pumpkin carving, face painting, pick your own pumpkins, a bouncy castle, magic shows, games, a special pumpkin themed menu, fancy dress competition and balloon modelling. If that isn’t enough for you, they are also holding a grand finale Charity Pumpkin Extravaganza and Spectacular Firework Display on Tuesday 31st October (Tickets: Adults £4.50, Children £3.50). I cannot wait to take my children – be prepared for pumpkin spam on my Instagram page.
There are tons more activities going on throughout Devon but the above are ones that I’m going to take my family to, we are going to Newquay for the Halloween weekend which is really exciting.
